Can you take a 401(k) withdrawal before you retire?

Currently, withdrawals from 401(k) plans are very high. In a down economy such as the one most of us face today, the need for questionshort-term money often trumps ideal long-term planning. Like with a regular IRA, you can get your money anytime from a 401(k) plan, since it is your money. (An exception to the general rule is matching contributions which have not yet vested.)

Prior to withdrawing money from your 401(k) plan however, understand the implications of an early withdrawal. Consider alternative funding sources.?
